Artifacts
An Artifact is a file Felix made in a chat, such as a formatted report, a chart or a data export, shared as a link. Whoever opens it sees exactly what you saw, can see how it was built, and can ask Felix their own follow-up questions about it without touching your chat.
Artifacts are currently in beta as of Nov 1st.
What is an Artifact?
Felix produces files during a conversation: a chart you asked for, a CSV of the rows behind a number, a written-up report. Those files live in the chat they were made in. Sharing one turns it into an Artifact, with a stable link, a name, a version history and a record of the queries that produced it.
Every Artifact has three properties:
- The numbers are fixed at the time you share it. A recipient sees the same values you did, not a fresh query run against today's data.
- It carries a record of which metrics, filters and date ranges produced it, shown in plain English.
- A recipient can ask Felix a follow-up question about it, in their own private chat.
What Felix can make
File | What it is |
|---|---|
Formatted report (HTML) | A document with a title, written narrative, charts, data tables and KPI tiles, composed from the analysis already in your conversation. This is the most common Artifact, and the one to share with people who weren't in the chat. |
Data export | A CSV, JSON or Parquet file of a result set Felix has pulled. |
Chart or image | A standalone visualization, including session replay screenshots. |
Note | Plain text or Markdown. |
All of these can be shared the same way.
Report sections can include:
Block | What it is |
|---|---|
Heading | A section header with an optional subtitle |
Narrative | Written analysis of the data, including what changed and why it matters |
Text | Free-form notes and commentary |
KPI tiles | A grid of headline numbers |
Chart | A visualization of a result set |
Data table | The rows behind a result |
Funnel chart | A step-by-step conversion view |
Divider | A visual break between sections |
Chart types available: bar, column, line, area, stacked bar, pie, doughnut, scatter, funnel and combination charts.
Creating an Artifact
Ask Felix for a file in the conversation. For example:
- "Put this in a report I can send to my team."
- "Build me an executive summary of checkout performance this week."
- "Export those rows as a CSV."
- "Give me a chart of errors by page over the last 30 days."
Felix composes reports from analysis that is already in the conversation. Ask your questions, let Felix pull the numbers and check they look right, then ask it to write the report. A report built this way uses numbers you've already checked.
When Felix finishes, the file opens in a panel on the right side of the chat. The panel header has a Share button and a Show steps button. Each file also appears as a card in Felix's response; click View artifact on a card to open it in the panel. When a chat has more than one file, the panel title becomes a picker for switching between them.
Sharing an Artifact
- Open the file in the panel and click Share. You can also click Share on the file's card in the chat, or on the Artifact's own page.
- Felix creates the link immediately. Click Copy link in the Share artifact dialog.
- Send the link.
Anyone in your Quantum Metric subscription who is a member of the workspace the Artifact was made in can open it. The link isn't public. Recipients sign in with their normal Quantum Metric account.
A recipient opening the link sees the Artifact, a Show steps button, a version picker, and a box at the bottom to ask Felix a question about it.
A recipient can download an HTML Artifact and use Show steps. The owner can also Share and Delete it. If you open a link you can't view, the page says "This artifact isn't available."
Workspaces
An Artifact belongs to the workspace it was built in, because the workspace determines which data the numbers cover. The same report can produce different numbers in a different workspace.
- If you're a member of that workspace, opening the link switches you into it, with a notice at the top of the page telling you so.
- If you're not a member, the Artifact is locked. You'll be asked to request access to that workspace from its admin, then open the link again.
Versions and editing
The share link always shows the latest version.
To edit an Artifact, open it, ask Felix for a change in the question box, and share the result. You're offered two options:
- Update "<name>" makes the result the new version of the Artifact you started from. Everyone with the link sees the change, and the previous version stays in its history.
- Share as new creates a separate Artifact and leaves the original unchanged.
The version dropdown in the header lists every version with who created it, when, and why ("created", "reshare", "restore"). Pick one to view it. When you're looking at an older version, a banner tells you so, with View latest and, if you have edit rights, Restore this version. Restoring brings the old version forward as a new latest version, so the history keeps every version.
If another person updated the Artifact after your chat started, Felix doesn't overwrite their version without asking. You're told, and asked whether to replace it. Their version stays in the history either way.
If you can edit an Artifact, the pencil icon next to its name renames it. The link doesn't change.
Show steps: where the numbers came from
Click Show steps on any Artifact, yours in chat or one shared with you, to see how it was built. The panel shows, in order:
- Input: what was asked for.
- Query: one card for each query Felix ran for this file, showing the metrics and dimensions, the conditions, and the date range. Expand a card to see the full query definition.
- Output: the sections the report is made of.
A screenshot, an upload or another file with no query behind it has nothing to show, and the panel says "No steps were recorded for this file." Show steps also works in your own chat before you share; those steps are shown only to you and aren't saved.
Use Show steps to check where a number came from. A reader who doesn't write queries should be able to look at a Query card and confirm it uses the right event and the right date range. If they can't, the Artifact isn't ready to send.
A recipient sees the record of what the queries did, including the filter values each query used. Your own chat messages aren't included.
Asking a question about an Artifact
At the bottom of any shared Artifact there's a box labelled "Ask a follow-up about this artifact…".
Typing a question there opens a new chat that belongs to you, with the Artifact and its full query history already loaded. For an image or a text-based file such as a table, up to 1 MB, Felix also gets the file's content. Your original chat isn't copied in, and the Artifact itself stays read-only. From there it's a normal Felix conversation: Felix can answer from the Artifact, and it can run new queries to go further.
- The person who shared the Artifact never sees your questions.
- You can ask for a different version of what you were sent. If the report covers last week and you want last month, or you want it by region instead of by channel, ask. Then share your version.
Downloading and copying
For reports and charts, the Download as dialog offers PDF and HTML, and JSON for charts. Copy as rich text copies the content for pasting into a document. A Parquet file offers Original (.parquet), Download as CSV, Download as JSON, Copy as TSV and Copy as JSON. Other files, such as CSV, JSON and images, download as they are.
The Artifacts list
In the Felix menu, Artifacts lists the Artifacts you can open, with search, a type filter, and a switch between your own and other people's. On your own Artifacts, the row menu has Share and Delete. Only shared files appear here; a file that stays in its chat isn't listed.
Deleting an Artifact
The owner or a subscription admin can delete an Artifact. Delete opens Delete artifact, which deletes it for everyone: everyone it was shared with loses access, and its link shows "This artifact was deleted". Deleting is permanent and can't be undone.
Getting the best results
- Investigate first, then ask for the report. Felix writes reports from analysis already in the conversation, so ask your questions and confirm the numbers look right before you ask for it.
- Say who the report is for. "An executive summary for our VP" produces a different document from "a detailed breakdown for the analytics team".
- Be specific about time and scope. "Last week vs. the week before, mobile only" gets a more precise answer than "recently".
- Check Show steps before you send an Artifact, so you can answer questions about where its numbers came from.
- Ask for changes to an existing Artifact rather than starting over. Editing keeps its version history; a new Artifact starts with none.
- Keep exports narrow. Data exports are capped at 1,000 rows, so filter the question rather than exporting everything and filtering later.
Limits
- 1,000 rows per data export. If a result is larger, Felix exports the first 1,000 rows and tells you it's truncated.
- 10 MB per data export.
- You can share a file up to 25 MB.
- 50 files per chat.
- Previews show the first 50 rows of a CSV and 500 rows of a Parquet file.
- If PDF export is unavailable, the dialog says "PDF export is unavailable right now. Try another format."
- Directives and Skills shape a file when Felix makes it. A Directive added after you share doesn't change the Artifact.
- Artifacts can only contain data Quantum Metric has captured. They can't include CRM data, offline revenue, or events that were never instrumented.
- Artifact content is AI-generated from your data. For decisions that matter, check the numbers with Show steps.
What's not in the beta yet
- Files aren't saved outside their chat until you share them. A file that's never shared stays in its chat.
- There are no public, no-login links. Every recipient needs a Quantum Metric account and workspace membership.
- You can't share with named people or teams. Sharing today is one link, scoped to the workspace.
- An Artifact doesn't refresh on a schedule; it's a snapshot. For a report that arrives on a regular schedule, ask Felix to set up a recurring report instead.
Getting started
If you have the Chat permission, ask Felix in Chat for a report or a CSV export of an analysis. Open the file, click Show steps to check the queries, then click Share and send the link. To find Artifacts shared with you, open Artifacts in the Felix menu.
